Outlaws Push Rush Hard in the Battle of Ontario
On Sunday, the Outlaws and RUSH closed out the 2017 Battle of Ontario series in style with a game that was never out of reach and kept fans entertained until the buzzer. These two teams did not look a 9-3 team vs 2-9 team. The first quarter was back and forth with the RUSH holding a 9-7 lead thanks to two timely breaks. The second quarter saw the RUSH narrowly extend their lead to 14-11 at half. The third quarter was pivotal as the Outlaws failed to convert on some untimely RUSH turnovers that would have brought them back to level score. In typical RUSH fashion, with the game on the line, they focused on a possession game setting up the deep shot which they executed perfectly in the third and fourth quarter to extend the lead to 5, and lock into autopilot en route to a 30-25 victory.
With the win, the RUSH improve to 10-3 and kept their chances of clinching their 5 straight division title alive but still need a victory vs the NY Empire next Sunday at Varsity Stadium.
The Outlaws dropped to 2-10 with two games next weekend and a chance to catch the Philadelphia Phoenix to close out the season at 4-10.
Next Saturday, the Outlaws will host the NY Empire as part of the No Borders Tournament Showcase game to be held an Terry Fox Stadium with a 7pm start. The Empire are also playing for pride and will head to Toronto right after this game to take on the RUSH as part of a grueling double header weekend.
On Sunday, the Outlaws close out the season with a visit to Montreal to take on the Royal on Sunday July 23. The Royal have taken both previous meetings this season so a victory on the road would close the season on a high.
